Fajerov Mlin SHPP on the Glina River, Croatia
The paper presents a small hydro power plant (SHPP) Fajerov Mlin (Fajer mill) on the Glina River in Croatia. This mill is an example that illustrates an opportunity to use available mill sites for a new way of water power and energy use. In the past, water power and energy have been used to run mills, sawmills, weaving machinery, etc. Today, this energy is dominantly used for electric energy production. Both Europe and Croatia encourage use of renewable energy resources, including hydro power plants, especially the small ones. Especially interesting as SHPP sites are those where water power and energy was used in the past, particularly from the standpoint of their environmental acceptability and regional and local planning (land use). In spite of large efforts invested in preparing SHPP in Croatia, the results are rather modest. In conclusion, some approaches are recommended for improvement of the small hydro power plant use in Croatia.
