The influence of the time of harvest and the double ripening technique on the quality of grapes and wine of the Muscat rose of Poreč
Muscat rose of Poreč is an autochthonous Istrian variety producing very high quality grapes and wine. In some years, the quality of grapes can be unsatisfactory. Therefore we wanted to check whether it is possible to improve it with a late harvest and the application of the double ripening technique. The experiment was carried out in 1997 and 1998. The grapes were harvested at various times and the double ripening technique was applied. During the harvested, we monitored: yield per vine, number of bunches per vine, average bunch weight, pH and sugar and acids comtents. A chemical analysis was performed as well as the organoleptic wine evolution. The research has shown that the quality of grapes and wine can be improved with later harvests and the application of the double ripening technique, bat in some years the effects may be absent.
