Examining differences in job satisfaction and certain personality variables among educational professionals

Aim of this study was to examine difference in job satisfaction, type A personality pattern, locus of control and personal growth initiative depending of the workplace. The target population for the study consists of 199 participants: 62 kindergarten teachers, 76 primary school and 61 secondary school teachers. One-way ANOVA was applied and showed that there was a statistical difference in the job satisfaction between the educational professionals. The kindergarten teachers were the least satisfied with their jobs (M = 2.74), while the secondary school teachers were the most satisfied (M = 3.33). The results showed the above average job satisfaction among the educational professionals (MTOT= 3.1). There was a statistical difference in type A personality pattern between the participants (F = 3.43, p <0.05). The secondary school teachers (M = 91.56) showed the most characteristics of the A-type personality, while the primary school (M = 87.79) and the kindergarten teachers (M = 88.69) showed less of these characteristics. The participants did not differ in locus of control and personal growth initiative. Job satisfaction can be predicted poorly from the investigated variables (adjusted R² = 0.079). The only significant predictor of the job satisfaction in the regression analysis was the workplace of the participants (t = 4.01, p <0.01). Personal growth initiative was on the border of significance (t = 1.96, p = 0.051). Personal growth initiative positively correlated with an internal locus of control (r = 0.31, p < 0.01).
