Application of System for Monitoring Vehicles and Machinery in the Company Croatian Forests Ltd
Croatian Forests Ltd. is a state company which manages with the state forests and have a large number of vehicles and machinery. Croatian Forests Ltd. have launched and financed a joint project with the Faculty of Forestry, in order to optimize their use and reduce costs through better work organization. The first step was the settings of the requirements with the aim of defining the characteristics and development (software and hardware) of commercial system for remote monitoring (SDPR or FMS) of the characteristic group vehicles and machinery. That will be tailored to the specifics of their use in forestry, according to a group of entrepreneurs whose role is to implement the project (Rasco Ltd - software, Mobilisis Ltd. - hardware and HT - data transfer). In the first stage of introducing a system for remote monitoring of machines, it was decided that the system is equipped a total of 50 vehicles and machinery which are grouped into 6 different groups: truck units, forwarders, skidders, tractors with semi-trailers, farm tractors with working attachments and construction machinery. Functional items that are tracked on all vehicles are: • GPS positioning, • Operating modes of work – rpm, velocity, • Fuel consumption - probe for measuring the fuel level in the tank, • Driver changing, • Additional units - different sensors typical for each vehicle group. The system consists of a mobile unit that is installed in the vehicle. Basic components of the mobile unit are GPS receiver (positioning) and GPRS modem (data transfer). In the first phase of implementation it will be determined the areas which are not covered by the signals and the use of sense or his ability to improve in this regard. Probe for measuring the fuel level and other sensors and the vehicle computer are connected to the mobile unit which measurement data via a GPRS modem transmits to the server control center. The user is through the web application in the monitoring center providing insights into the operation of the vehicle and the formation of the report of the vehicle and driver for the selected period. Based on the indicators and the experiences of application on the test group of vehicles, shall be determined application of the same and the need for further and wider application development system.
