Effect of partial lipid precipitation upon human serum paraoxonase and arylesterase activities
Serum samples from two hyperlipidaemic patients were analyzed for paraoxonase and arylesterase activities before and after the extracorporal lipid precipitation treatment (HELP). The samples were taken before and after the HELP procedure and the enzyme activities measured with paraoxon and phenylacetate as substrates of paraoxonase and arylesterase respectively. The enzyme activities of both patients remained almost unaltered in samples taken once a week over the period of seven weeks. The arylesterase activity was also measured in presence of 1 mM EDTA. In sera of both patients the EDTA-inhibited arylesterase activity measured before HELP was higher than after HELP.
