Policing in Croatia: The Main Challenges on the Path to Democratic Policing
Chapter "Policing in Croatia: The main challenges on the Path to Democratic Policing" provide detailed account of the state of police and policing in Croatia over the last 20 years. The police reform in Croatia has been driven by the goal of transforming the former regime police into a democratic police force and authors demonstrates the transitional process which is quite complex. The contributions in the chapter show that the reform of the Croatian police is directly affected by the events in the Croatian society at large because policing necessarily depends on the contemporary social and political context and its historical background. Authors describe Croatian police organization, its structure and function, crime and disorder trends in the last 20 years, police training and the police education system, changes in policing, current trends in policing, public opinion about the police, as well as recent trends in research into policing.
