History of the research of the Ancient Egyptian and the Oriental cults in Pannonia
The authors analyze the state of research of the Ancient Egyptian and the Oriental cults in Pannonia. It was a province of the Roman Empire which was from the reign of emperor Trajan administratively divided into Pannonia Superior and Pannonia Inferior. Pannonia did not circumvent the Egyptian and Oriental influences, which are becoming more intense the Roman conquest of Egypt in the first c. BC. Most of the cases related to the Ancient Egyptian and Oriental cults are kept in various museums. From the second half of the 19th century scholars started to analyse such material. The authors give a brief review of the relevant research from the second half of the 19th century onwards. They conclude that the situation could be much better with the existence of historical institute for Ancient history in Croatia. Such institution could develop specialized department for Ancient Egyptian and Oriental Studies.
