Comparison of geoeffectiveness of coronal mass ejections and corotating interaction regions-results overview

We present the overview of the results obtained by comparison of the geomagnetic responses to interplanetary coronal mass ejection (ICMEs) and corotating interacting regions (CIRs) during solar cycle 23. We discuss the following main findings: (1)threshold values of the ICME and CIR parameters needed for trigger geomagnetic activity ; (2) different magnetospheric response to both solar drivers (ICMEs and CIRs) ; different geomagnetic activity caused by ICMEs and CIRs including linear and non-linear magnetospheric responses.
