Nők a hadseregben
In most armies men and women are equally eligible for certain posts. Women in the Croatian army have made undoubded contribution to the victorius outcome of the Homeland war. Conflicting beliefs remain, however, as to should women be admitted to the army or not, and as to their efficiency. The chapter discusses the fact refuting some widespread gender stereotypes and prejudices. Furthermore, data are presented on percentage of female personnel in some of the armies, and examples of women-in-war from Croatian history accounted, including the recent Homeland war experience. Also presented are the results of opinion poll on women in the army, with commissioned and non-commissioned officers of the Croatian army (Armed Forces of the Republic Croatia). The chapter concludes with some general recommendations on the military duties where women could perform better, in view of differences compared to male personnel.
