Overview of Status Quo in Sustainable Agriculture in Croatia
Croatia has a great possibilities for the development of sustainable agriculture, because of a clean environment: soil, water and air. During history, this way of agricultural production was mostly focused on an extensive agriculture production but today most producers recognize possibilities and advantages of ecological products and its placement on a more developed market. State institutions and regional authorities do not support sustainable agriculture according to their strategies which usually stay in office folders and because of that, economic profitability and social equity are present less or are missing completely. Small agricultural plots and an uneducated rural population are some of the problems for the development of Croatian agriculture in general and especially sustainable agriculture. Croatia has a great opportunity for the development of sustainable agriculture and this has to be one of the Croatian agricultural goals in the future. Sustainable agriculture has an environmentally friendly impact and in the long term it helps our soil, water and air to remain clean for our children and enables rural population to stay on the countryside and to live from the fruits of their labor.
