Has the role of old pests of narrow leaved ash (Fraxinus angustifolia ) changed recently?
Presentation argues the case of possibly changed role of well known pests on narrow leaved ash (Stereonychus fraxini, Tomostethus nigritus, Hylesinus crenatus and Leperesinus fraxini) which all have been known for long in their harmful role, as defoliatorsd or xylophages. A special case of abiotic predisposing harmful impact (flood) is presented, where bark beetles appeared in massive outbreak and could be regarded as contributing and last damaging factor that killed the affected ash trees. The main arguments in favor of suppressing and reducing populations of defoliating and xylophagous pests are based on an assumption that their additive impact (either predisposing or finalizing), if reduced, could save at least some of the ash stands from dieout.
