Process discovery for Learning Management Systems: a user journey perspective
Process mining offers significant opportunities to business practice by enabling objective extraction of process models out of transactional logs. This research is based on the event logs gathered from the Moodle LMS at the Juraj Dobrila University of Pula. The event logs extracted from the database cover the period of winter semester of the academic year 2014. By applying process discovery, a subset technique of process mining, a process model that describes reality is obtained, from a user journey perspective. Insight into the user experience with LMS enables universities to understand and define policies and actions to improve the usability of LMS and promote usage among users. Potential benefits may include better students and professors satisfaction and increased effectiveness of the learning process.
