Jakov Šašel (Jacob Schaschel) and his travels to Egypt, Nubia and Africa 1853-52
Jakob Šašel (1832.-1903) is the famous Croatian citizen who lived the most of his life in Karlovac, Croatia. He was gunman, painter and artist who travelled through Egypt, Nubia and Sudan as the member of the Catholic mission of Ignacio Knoblecher during 1853/1854. His notes and drawings were later published in German language in 1863 in the book entitled „Bilder aus dem Oriente aufgenommen während einer Reise nach Aegypten, Nubien, Sudan in den Jahren 1853 und 1854“. His journal was later translated and published in Croatian language. In this paper author present the life of Jakob Šašel and his travel to Egypt and Nubia in the middle of the 19th century.
