Various Possibilities of Using Multispectral and Hyperspectral Sensors in the Kopački Rit Nature Park

Information about the current state and about the changes in the forest and other ecosystems are an important foundation for making precise decisions from the aspect of economy, environment protection and forestry. The advancement of technology and development of new mathematical algorithms opens up new possibilities for the detection of changes in the vegetation cover. Multispectral and hiperspectral scanning allows for compiling and analyzing large quantity of spatial and spectral data in the longer time period, and has thus established itself as a leading technique for data acquisition. It is a process of scanning of the objects in the wide band of electromagnetical spectrum. Each material has a unique spectral signature so that scanning the objects with different wave lengths enables the detection of that material and therefore its placement in time and space (time-space continuum). Updating the object spatial data with hiperspectral analysis gives us spatial geocoded hiperspectral cubes and with that new information which eases the conduction of forest monitoring on a larger scale and also gives us the final picture regarding the changes in the forest ecosystems. Faculty of Geodesy in coordination with the Croatian Forest Research Institute has conducted a project in the area of forest Česma. They worked on a geostatistical analysis of satellite data which were integrated with existent geodesic maps and with the data compiled from hydrological, pedological and forest disciplines. With that project they generated new information necessary for carrying out the forest monitoring on a larger area. Five vegetation indices (NDVI, NDWI, GNDVI, EVI i SAVI) were used for the detection of forest growth which were calculated from satellite images of Landsat 7 and Landsat 8 satellites in the time frame from 2005. till 2016. They also used available data regarding the level of ground waters. It was shown that the relationship between the vegetation indices is mutually correlated and that the biophysical parameters are in correlation with the level of ground waters. For the purpose of compiling more precise data on smaller areas the images collected from multispectral of hiperspectral sensors mounted on aeroplanes or drones should be used instead of satellite images. One of these is a Parrot Sequoia multispectral sensor which gathers data in 4 channels (red edge, red, green and near infrared) and thus enables detection of plant changes, vegetation diseases, assessment of invasive species area, monitoring of erosion, moisture and ground temperature, monitoring of irrigation, etc. Such analysis enables the undertaking of timely activities which are directed at environment protection and sustainable development of forest and other ecosystems. This paper will show all the above mentioned possibilities and benefits of using multispectral sensor Parrot Sequoia on the area of Kopački rit Nature Park
