Procedures (methods) for controlling the behaviour of children in the dental office
Most of the children are cooperative and well- behaved during their dental visits. However, for some children with uncooperative behaviour a specific behavioural approach is needed to increase their cooperation. In such cases it is essential that the dentist be familiar with behavioural characteristics of the child linked to her/his psychological developmental status. From a number of strategies for effective child management in the dental clinic, the dentist will choose the one she/he considers the most effective, depending on the type of child's behaviour as well as the nature of the dental problem (procedure that is to be carried out). Irrelevant to the appropriate treatment it is crucial to know that dentist's good communication skills, empathy and compassion for her/his patients leads to the success of dental treatment. In this review, we will present various forms of most common methods used fordifferent kinds of children’s behaviours in the dental clinic.
