Lignicolous fungi in sweet chestnut forest near Petrinja

The sweet chestnut (Castanea sativa Mill.) is a natural tree species in the Croatia. It is economically important for tannin extraction, fruit and timber as well as for landscaping, ecological and social role and biodiversity maintarance. The sweet chestnut forest in Vučjak Tješnjak near town petrinja is young forest with lot of dead sprouts, dry and half dry trees measure. Fungi are integral part of chestnut forest ecosystem. The lignicolous fungi are important for decompositio and recycling the bioelements. These fungi are of ecologic interest . The objective of this work was to inwestigate the lignicolous fungi on chestnut wood material. The fungi were collected from live and dead standing trees, sprouts, stumps, logs, base of tree, above ground, dead braches on the ground in the spring and in the autmn 2010 and 2011. The fungi were identified through macro and micro morfological analysis. The PCR based diagnostic was used to confirm the fungi species. From this study, 6 identified species of the fungi: Schiophyllum commune (Fr.) Fr., Stereum rugosum (Pers.ex F.), Stereum hirsutum, Armillaria mellea (Vahl.ex Fr) Karst, Trametes Versicolor(L.ex Fr.)Pil. And Hypoksilon fragiforme (Pers. Fr.)J.Kickx. were white rot fungi. One species, Deadalea quercina L.exFkr. was broiwn rot fungi. ALL identified fungi belkong to basidiomycetes class, exscept Hypoksilon fragiforme that belonged to ascomycetes class.
