Il ruolo catalizzatore del dominio veneziano del primo Quattrocento nell'articolazione di alcune comunità dalmate
In the paper are analysed three types of Dalmatian communities, which at the beginning of the fifteenth century were at different stages of political, legal and social development: the communities of the nobiles villarum in the rural hinterland of Zadar ; the groups of commoners in various Dalmatian cities ; the city of Pag, which wished to ‘upgrade’ its status into that of the commune. The main topic explores the question how the consolidation of Venetian rule in Dalmatia influenced the institutional development of the mentioned communities, methods of official communication and representation, and the creation of their new legal codes. It is argued that Venetian domination played a catalytic role in the community-building process, started in the previous period, that in the early fifteenth century considerably gained in momentum.
