Ash and soils. A twin relationship in fire- affected areas
Ash covers soil surface in the immediate period after the fire, draping the landscape with toons of black, grey and white colours (Pereira et al. 2015a). The colour of the ash is an important indicator of fire severity, or the impact that the fire had on the landscape. Black ash corresponds to a low fire severity, while a grey and white ash corresponds to a moderate-to-high fire severity. The thin ash layer of ash has an important impact on soil properties and is impossible dissociate the evolution of soils after fire without consider ash. Therefore, ash and soils have a twin relation in fire-affected areas. Fire has two types of impacts on soil:.....
