Effect of Demographic and Chrono-biologic Features on the Overlap of the Influence of Ageing Process and Effects of Ankylosing Spondylitis: Initial Findings
The aim of this research is to establish a correlation between demographic features of patients with ankylosing spondylitis (age of first symptoms, disease duration, patient current age, quality of life) and ageing process. Ten male patients diagnosed with AS according to 1987 modified New York criteria (age range between 18 and 65 years) are included in this research. Sample of variables were comprised of three criterion variables assessing BASFI (Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Function Index), BASDAI (Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index) and ASQoL (Ankylosing Spondylitis Quality of Life) as well as demographic data: αAS_HR – alpha chronologic-biologic AS disease coefficient, disease duration, age of first symptoms, patient's current age. Data analysis was performed using statistical package Statistica 13. The basic descriptive parameters were calculated. Normality of distributions of results was tested with K-S test. The research shows that both chrono-biologic and demog raphic variables have an impact on the ASQoL (R2=, 75 ; F(3, 6)=5, 91 p<0, 03) compared to BASFI and BASDAI. In conclusion, BASFI score is the least subjected to the effect of age, while the other two variables (BASDAI and ASQoL) are more subjected.
