Diaspora Politics and Re-Migrant Perspectives on Identity and Belonging in Croatia Today
The article takes a look into the dynamics between diaspora outreach and return politics and individual experiences by members of the Croatian diaspora who re-migrated to Croatia as “country of origin/homeland” in the course of the past two decades. Croatia´s transition from socialism after the declaration of independence can – also in the lights of diaspora politics – be told as a story of ethno-national state- building. However, increasing cultural diversification of the society due to re- migration is another side of the story. This paradox linkage between policy intentions and outcomes is being addressed from re-migrant perspectives.
