The effect of loval anesthetics and phenothiazine derivatives on cholinesterase, investigated by a chemiluminescence method

Local anesthetics and phenothiazine derivatives inhibit the activating action of cholinesterase on the chemiluminescent oxidation of luminol. The values of I50 obtained are 5 to 10 times greater than those obtained by a spectrophotometric method. However, the sequence of the inhibitory potencies of the drugs investigated is the same by both method. The results of this work show that the luminol reaction provides a tool for investigation of the interaction of cholinesterase and its inhibitors.
