Biosynthesis and biodegradation of aflatoxins on green coffee beans contaminated with aflatoxigenous mould
The influence of selected cultivation parameters on the growth of the aflatoxigenous mould Aspergillus flavus ATCC 26949 and the biosynthesis of aflatoxin B1 and G1(AFB1 and AFG1)was investigated.Green coffee beans-regular and decaffeinated-served as substrate.Experiments were carried out in stationary culture, at temperatures from 20-40oC and water content in the substrate from 15-40%.The amount of biomass was estimated by measuring the chitin content, and the aflatoxin concentration by means of a fluorodensitometer. It was found that caffeine inhibits the synthesis of both investigated toxins whereas it had practically no influence on biomass growth. After 28 days of cultivation at 30oC the concentration of AFB1 was reduced by 15-22%, and at 40oC by 18-28%, relatively to the highest values obtained in the course of biosynthesis.Under the same growth conditions the concentration of AFG1 was reduced by 12-25% at 30oC, and by 20-35% at 40oC.
