Steroid dermatitis resembling rosacea
Topical corticosteroids (TC) can cause steroid dermatitis resembling rosacea. It is well known that rosacea can be aggrevated by topical steroids. We followed 56 subjects with steroid dermatitis resembeling rosacea. Patients' histories revealed that primer dermatoses were mainly seborrheic dermatitis, acne vulgaris, but also other dermatoses such as unrecognized dermatomycosis, psoriasis vlgaris etc. all of them were using various TC. In all patients Demodex folliculorum mite was looked by scarification method. All patients were treated mainly with local neutral and antibiotic therapy, while oral therapy was administered only in few cases. Patients with previous prolonged usage of TC were treated with tetracycline or isotretinoin. Patients with shorter previous corticosteroid therapy usage were treated shorter and with better success in contrast to patients with prolonged TC treatment. Special attention should be paid to the possibility of steroid dermatitis resembling rosacea development when TC are applied for a long period to the skin of the face.
