Preliminary report on Ladinian dasycladalean algae from Mt. Svilaja (Croatia)
Area of Muć on the SW foothill of Mt. Svilaja is well known locality of Lower and Middle Triassic. Well exposed section along road Mijići-Zelovo, has been subject of recent detailed investigations. The main tuff zone is conformably overlain by bioclastic cherty limestones, rarely dolomites, with abundance of gastropods, bivalves, brachiopods, foraminifers, radiolarians, crinoids, serpulids, ammonoids and calcareous algae. Thallii of dasycladal algae are visible on the weathered rock surface, and from limestone are extracted with similar method that is used for conodonts. Preliminary investigations showed presence of several species: Diplopora annulata SCHAFHÄUTL and/or Kantia dolomitica PIA, Diplopora annulatissima PIA, Teutloporella herculea (STOPPANI), Euteutloporella triasina (SCHAUROTH) and Physoporella aff. lotharingica (BENECKE).
